Quartz Oscillator

The quartz oscillator is composed of  quartz  resonator and  oscillating circuit, which has stable frequency signal output after  being powered on. Quartz oscillators according to the frequency signal output stability can be divided into general crystal oscillators, medium precision crystal oscillators and high stability crystal oscillators.


General crystal oscillators (such as DIP14 and SMD clock oscillator) are crystal oscillators without oven controlled or temperature compensation. Their frequency and temperature characteristics mainly depend on frequency and temperature characteristics of the Crystal oscillator used. The frequency stability in a wide temperature range is generally 10-5 ~10-6. Its characteristics are small size, low power consumption, and the frequency range is generally 0.5MHz~250MHz.


Medium precision crystal oscillators can be divided into oven controlled crystal oscillators and temperature compensate crystal oscillators (including SMD temperature compensation). Oven controlled crystal oscillator is an oscillator that controls the ambient temperature of Crystal oscillator by temperature control to improve  frequency temperature characteristics;Temperature compensate crystal oscillator is an oscillator that uses temperature compensation circuit to improve frequency and temperature characteristics. The frequency stability of medium precision crystal oscillators is generally between10-6 and 10-8, featuring small size and high stability. Temperature compensate crystal oscillator can obtain stable frequency signal after being powered on, and the power consumption is small (usually within 20mA); The stable time of the oven controlled crystal oscillator is long (usually about 3 minutes), and the power consumption is relatively high (usually 


High precision crystal oscillator is oven controlled crystal oscillator that uses precision temperature control, intelligent compensation and other technologies. The frequency stability is generally between 10-9 and 10-10 , and commonly used high stability crystal oscillator include 5MHz, 10MHz, and so on.
